The trip into now !

I will start this blog with a photo I took with the Canon R5 last Sunday when I arrived in Italy. Today is May 10th 2022, and it's sunrise at my secret house in Lago Maggiore. I'm at one of my happy places, one of many I've acquired over the 25 years I have travelled the world. This trip has been a long time coming, patiently waiting for Covid to subside. It has been 3 years since I have had a Holliday, and this trip is not one, but it's a close runner up working from the house in the hills rather than the hustle bustle and pollen filled air of Berlin.

I left Berlin last Friday and found a wonderful hotel in the south of Switzerland on Saturday evening. I didn't stop much in Germany, It's mostly flat and dull from the freeway coming from the north, and with the unrestricted speed limit, I found myself sitting on about 170 kph most of the way. When one drives that fast, it's challenging to take in the scenery. I travelled through the beautiful cities of Leipzig, where I made a short stop to stretch my legs by a stunning field of Canola flowers. Then Bayreuth, Nuremberg, and crossed into Austria by Lake Constance and then through Liechtenstein and into Switzerland. I looked for a hotel as I passed through Chur. A memorable city that I will tell the story of that will be fit for a script one day.

I have taken this route many other times, and it was in this part of Switzerland that I'm most interested in and find the most beautiful.

I sat in the dark on the side of the road with the interior light aglow with Zillah looking for a dog-friendly hotel... without too much fuss or choices, I found the lovely Hotel Soazza, a 3 star Gem. Emilia, the hotel manager, got out of bed to check me in. Obviously, she was in bed before I had even made the reservation. Emilia made Zillah, and I feel so welcome. She made a fantastic breakfast before I hit the town with the R5.
